Galaxy Unpacked Live starts in an hour!

18:40
another 20 minutes

There are only 20 minutes left to discover the new Galaxy products.

18:48
Little editing while you wait

Meanwhile, Samsung walks through all three of its S23’s sensors and highlights what we assume is a night mode for taking a photo of the moon.

18:58
It will start!

The conference is about to start. Make yourself comfortable, it won’t take long: departure at 7 pm!

19:04

He went

The conference begins. It opens with an intervention by TM Roh that recalls the importance of the S range. Premium cameras that take good photos, that last a long time and that perform well.

19:07
The conference will be ULTRA

Boom. TM Roh announces that there will be a Galaxy Book Ultra this year. It also highlights early design elements of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The entire conference is filmed with this phone, moreover, enough to show the performance in concrete terms.

19:11

And here are the S23 with Ridley Scott

There you have it, now we know the design of the Galaxy S23. The S23 and S23 plus are therefore inspired by their older brother and get rid of their photoblock to get even closer to the old Note range. Samsung repeats that the conference is filmed with Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Ridley Scott, the famous director of Alien and Gladiator, lent his talents to Samsung by shooting a movie called Behold using the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This is reminiscent of Kathryn Bigelow, featured by Apple.

7:15 p.m.
Focus on photo and video

We are interested in the sensor of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, now capable of shooting in 4K 60 FPS in front and behind. This is partly due to the 200-megapixel sensor, which offers 16-in-1 pixel binning to switch to 12-megapixel shots. 8K is also capable of 30 FPS boost as of now.

Camera Assistant, the application that allows access to greater flexibility in the use of the camera. It is now possible to deactivate the automatic sensor change there. A new night mode also appears to give full scope to astrophotography.

19:21
The conference turns into a film festival

It’s filmmaker Na Hong-Jin’s turn to invite himself to the conference. He also made a movie for Samsung using the S23 Ultra. Submerged in the dark, the sequence allows to highlight the talents of the phone in terms of HDR capture.

The night is coming back. This was the marketing term introduced last year by Samsung to promote the great qualities of its device in night conditions. On the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the OIS can handle movements twice as large as the S22 Ultra. Noise reduction has also been improved, as well as dodge.

Another outstanding novelty, the autofocus has gone to dual pixel in all sensors. Enough to ensure a faster but also more precise focus.

19:29

Overview of photo settings

Here’s a full rundown of the photography capabilities of all three devices.

19:32

S23 performance

This is one of the novelties of the year, the batteries of the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus gain 300 mAh each compared to the previous generation.

Another great novelty is the arrival of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, slightly customized “for Galaxy” for the occasion. It would offer a gain of 34% on the CPU, 49% on the NPU, and 41% on the GPU. The latter also includes a module capable of managing Ray Tracing.

No jealousy for brightness, the entire range will integrate 1750 nit screens.

19:38

An ultra galactic book

Surprise (or not), Samsung presents a new range of PCs with the Galaxy Book Ultra. Very slim design, Intel Core i7 or i9, RTX 4050 or 4070, there’s enough power to do it. The device packs a 16-inch AMOLED display updated to 120Hz, as well as Thunderbolt 4 ports.

19:41
PC ecosystem

Like all manufacturers, Samsung highlights the qualities of its ecosystem. Galaxy Books can easily communicate with the Galaxy S23 or Galaxy Tab S8. Many small features were shown, such as screen sharing or password sharing.

The Galaxy Book Ultra can be rotated 360 degrees to become a touch tablet with a stand.

Here’s a full rundown of the Galaxy Book’s capabilities:

7:45 p.m.
What’s new in a user interface

Samsung highlights the news of One UI 5. The lock screen is now more customizable. The security center should also help protect your phone when it’s put in for repair. Convenient.

You can use the S Pen to write directly in the Chrome search bar.

19:47
Two freestyle in one

Nice little novelty (although it’s hard to imagine who could really benefit from it) it is now possible to merge the images from two Freestyle projectors for a better quality image.

19:49

Prices

Here are the full prices for the products featured tonight:

We start with the Galaxy S23 (note, the prices are in dollars) and surprise, the price of the Galaxy S22 drops for the occasion.

Here are the prices of the laptops:

ecology point

We’ve already criticized Samsung for its lack of precision in its green commitments. Tonight the marking was much more accurate than usual. We can cite, for example, its Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, made with 22% recycled glass.

The Korean group continues with its commitment to the duration of the updates, once again promising four years of Android updates.

19:58
Qualcomm and Google on stage

Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, who can welcome the arrival of Snapdragon to all Galaxy S, takes the stage. He is accompanied by Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice president of Google and one of the founding members of Android.

TM Roh made it clear that XR, i.e. augmented reality, would be the next chapter for Samsung.

Lockheimer came to highlight the various improvements of One Ui 5 related in particular to the better integration of Google applications.

20:03
It’s over

Well, finally, there are no big surprise announcements at this conference, but there are the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy Book, including the arrival of an Ultra model. Now it is OK ! We will use the next few weeks to test these devices as needed.

What products are expected for this conference?

Without revealing anything, it seems very clear that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will be the stars of the evening. All three phones have been the subject of multiple leaks and Samsung has even confirmed things like the presence of a 200-megapixel sensor in the lineup. The main novelty this year would be based on the performance of the three phones, since we should finally see the transition to Snapdragon for Europe.

For the rest of the products expected tonight, we’re also expecting the launch of Galaxy Books, portable PCs that look like MacBooks, some of which have the ability to rotate the screen 360 degrees.

Samsung should also present the latest version of its interface, One UI 5.1. We await news of future Galaxy tablets, but there have been no rumors suggesting a launch in this direction in recent weeks. As for watches, headphones or folding smartphones, Samsung usually bets on the month of August.
