The production, possession, importation and distribution of plastic bags of all kinds, obtained free of charge or for consideration at points of sale, must be prohibited as of March 2020. The government decree of January 16, 2020 must enter into force as of March 1, 2020 for shopping centers and pharmacies, and on January 1, 2021 for all producers, importers, distributors and holders of plastic bags. But its application was suspended due to pressure from professionals in the sector”, explains realities.

According to OECD estimates, plastic production has gone from 2 million tons in 1950 to 460 million tons in 2019, generating 353 million tons of waste, of which less than 10% is currently recycled and 22% is abandoned in wild landfills, open burning or being dumped into the environment.
