The Ford of Allere. Nature Environnement 17 denounces farmers who do not respect irrigation bans

According to the Charente-Maritime nature protection association, some farmers ignore prefectural orders limiting water use and continue to irrigate their fields. Implicated, Pascal Ribreau, farmer from Gué d’Alleré.
The members of the association Nature Environment 17 oppose certain farmers who do not respect the decrees of the prefectures that limit or prohibit the irrigation of their crops. The association for the defense of nature denounces a clear incitement of some farmers to disobedience by producing a copy of internal mail.

The president of the Aunis Authorized Irrigation Union Association indicated on July 28 in a letter to its members that he had been sealed off, like two other farmers, from his pumping station by the authorities and, “by this action (police controls ), the State services wanted to let us know that they were there and put pressure on us. Farmers caught by the throat
The farmer said that he was grabbed by the neck and decided to ignore the decree of the prefecture. In theory, he risks 2 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 euros. To date, some fifty infringements have been reported in Charente-Maritime.
Pascal Ribreau spoke with our colleagues from TF1 of the drought that he was suffering and of the intervention of the State services forbidding him to irrigate. “It was to save our farms, to feed our cattle, to be able to pay our expenses, to be able to pay the employees, to be able to pay everyone.”
Already in 2017
Nature Environnement 17 recalls in its press release that in 2017, “We had this same behavior in July 2017 when the Chamber of Agriculture and the Charente-Maritime irrigation association, Aquanid 17, had asked its members to resume irrigation and not respect the orders of the prefecture. On Friday, August 5, the AunisTV newsroom tried unsuccessfully to contact Pascal Ribreau and Eric Tranquard to obtain their position and opinion. The farmers involved will be summoned to the police court in February 2023.
New pumping bans
The prefect of Charente-Maritime, Nicolas Basselier, has decided further cuts and a pumping ban in effect from Saturday August 6 at 8 am It is forbidden to pump water in the Curé and the North Aunis swamp. “Total prohibition of extractions for irrigation, including authorized derogatory crops,” indicates the press release.
