The first Territorial Health Center was inaugurated this Monday, May 9, in Fleurance. This departmental council project aims to pay general practitioners and specialists to compensate for the lack of caregivers in the Gers. This center is the first in the Occitania region.
A banner placed on the door of the old Pasteur school in Fleurance announced this for some time. The first Territorial Health Center of the Gers was inaugurated this Monday, May 9, in the presence of many local elected officials and residents of the city. Launched two years ago by the county council, the payment project for general practitioners and specialists in the Gers sees the light of day.
Although health is not usually within its competence, the Department, under the impulse of its former president Philippe Martin, has decided to deploy these Territorial Health Centers throughout the territory, which are inspired by what has been done in other French departments, such as Saone and Loire . “The goal is to fight against medical desertification in the territory, presents Philippe Dupouy, president of the departmental council. This new rural medicine comes in support of the liberal health offer already present in the municipalities. Salaried staff practice medicine 100% of their working time.
Two salaried doctors at Fleurance
Fleurance is therefore the first city in Occitanie to have a departmental health center. “Le name de médecins généralistes était passedé de 14, il already une dizaine d’années, à 4, rappelle Ronny Guardia-Mazzoleni, maire de la commune. C’est pourquoi nous avons decided to apply for au projet et avons mis à disposition el building”.
The former Pasteur School has been transformed and the classrooms have been refurbished to create five offices and treatment rooms. But this Territorial Health Center is only temporary, since it will have to be moved to the old Halle au Gras, which is being remodeled and will be able to house interns and specialist doctors in its 8 offices.
Therefore, two general practitioners will receive their first patients starting this Tuesday, May 10, inside the old school. Amélie Boué and Audrey Cazaban are the first female doctors employed by the department. A new experience for them too. “This choice responds above all to a project and a personal lifestyle that suits me particularly well,” explains Amélie Boué, who worked for ten years as an emergency doctor. I am also happy to be able to practice in the city where I come from. from.”
Gers: here are the first four municipalities that will receive doctors employed by the Department
The salary will also be a discovery for Audrey Cazaban, who finished her internship in November. “Au cours de ma formation, j’ai réalisé moreieurs stages dans le Gers, précise le medecin adjoint originaire de Pau. Je souhaite faire l’expérience du salariat afin de couvrir une autre pratique. Je vois ce post comme une première étape dans ma professional life”.
The doctors will be accompanied by two medical assistants. Sophie Blesson, a pediatrician, will join the team from September. He will divide his working day between the Fleurance center and the Vic-Fezensac center (see below). The Fleurance Health Center will be open Monday through Saturday mornings, by appointment. Priority will be given to individuals who do not currently have a treating physician.
Two other centers open this year
If Fleurance launched the inaugurations, in 2022 another two Territorial Health Centers will be installed in the Gers. This summer an establishment in Vic-Fezensac will come into operation, with a branch in Gondrin. Then, at the end of the year, the Plaisance-du-Gers center will welcome the public in the old treasure. Two territorial branches will also be associated with this medical place: Marciac and Villecomtal-sur-Arros. “The goal is really to link the entire territory, specifies Charlette Boué, vice president of the departmental council in charge of health, who, together with Jérôme Samalens, toured the health centers of France. The diagnosis carried out upstream identified the priority areas”.
Coming soon health centers in the Occitania region
Inspired by the dynamics of the Gers, the Occitanie region is opening two health centers this summer in Lot and Ariège. “This is a real revolution, believes Vincent Bounes, vice president of the regional council. Health is not the responsibility of the departmental, regional or even municipal council. But we try to meet the needs of the population.” Other establishments should open by the end of the year. “Many doctors are waiting to see how it works, assures the regional elect, but I think that later there will be a real dynamic”.
