The fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli has received many adjectives… And if you form your own opinion about her work, thanks to the exhibition at the Museum of Decorative Arts “Shocking! The surreal worlds of Elsa Schiaparelli”, to discover from July 6th. 2022 to January 22, 2023.
the decorative arts museum of Paris is organizing a big retrospective dedicated to the italian fashion designer elsa schiaparelli. This versatile artist has always defended her freedom, to establish herself as a figure offoreground. Costumes, accessories, photographs, perfume bottles, jewellery, sculptures… Come and discover all the creations of this limitless artist, from July 6, 2022 to January 22, 2023with exposure shocking! The surreal worlds of Elsa Schiaparelli.
The Museum of Decorative Arts has staged 520 works including 272 suits and fashion accessories. The tour is enriched with paintings, sculptures, jewellery, perfume bottles, ceramics, posters and photographs signed by the great names of the time, from Man Ray to Salvador Dalí, from Jean Cocteau to Meret Oppenheim or even Elsa Triolet.
Elsa Schiaparelli had fun for 25 years, creating collections and works that even today amazing, innovative, but always faithful to the personality of this artist. Passionate about art, Elsa Schiaparelli was inspired by great painters, sculptors Y photographers, creating bridges between disciplines to design unique models.
Rejecting codes and habits, he made haute couture their playing field, appropriating various styles such as evening dresses, city outfits, sports models, accessories or perfumes.
The exhibition highlights his remarkable and revolutionary collections, as well as his surprising collaborations, through a scenography immersive Y spectacular. In particular, we discovered hundreds of drawings and sketches by the artist, charting his awakening to fashion and haute couture.
Art Deco, Salvador Dalí, Elsa Triolet, Jean Cocteau, Man Ray: all the movements and artists of her time inspired her and were inspired by her. She pays special attention to details, borrowing his touches of humor from the movement surreal. He lets his passions speak in his creations, inventing collections around Italian antiquity, nature and music.
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs also surprises us by reconstructing, throughout the exhibition, the sewing salons by Elsa Schiaparelli, then located at 21 place Vendôme in Paris. These shows have seen all the extravagant women on the planet, calling the seamstress to stand out.
We also find in this exhibition many Images that testify to the great friendships and professional collaborations that have marked the career and life of the artist. The exhibition stimulates all our senses, with the presentation of perfumes where she worked.
